We have a Galaxy disk in which there are some imperfections in the surface of the GRP casting. If you're not afraid of little DIY remedial work here's an opportunity to buy a Galaxy at a much reduced price of £500.00, plus £40.00 carriage. Phone 01289 332900 for details.

The names of each constellation and of the major stars and galaxies (such as the Great Spiral in Andromeda) are engraved on the disk for ease of identification.

There are also engraved radial lines and circles dividing the sky into different areas, and an embossed curving line shows the Ecliptic.

For customers who want to further embellish their Galaxies, the engraved lines would be suitable for painting or filling with a gold or silver wire.

The names of the twelve houses of the Zodiac are engraved around the rim of the Galaxy. Once again, these are located in their correct astronomical postion.

Bring the stars indoors on those long cold winter nights with our stunning Galaxy star ceiling.

The photos show just how rich the Galaxy is in sculpted and engraved detail. The most obvious features, of course, are the constellation figures - drawn from the mythology of ancient Greece and Rome.

This gold-on-blue design is just one of the many possibilities. You're limited only by your imagination. There's no reason, of course, why the constellations shouldn't be painted in naturalistic colours, with a much broader colour palette.

Around 450 embossed stars are shown on the Galaxy disk, each in its correct relative position.

Different star shapes denote the relative brightness of each star, and this is also modelled in the actual light coming from each optical fibre.

We had this response from a customer who had just taken delivery of his Galaxy:

"Many thanks for the Galaxy – absolutely amazing – the physical product beats the best of expectations from the website – fantastic."

The Galaxy Star Ceiling

PLain white galaxy with silver and gold constellations

The Galaxy, which has a diameter of 5 ft (1.5 m), is boxed and ready assembled just waiting for you to do the final installation. The Galaxy is cast in GRP (fibreglass) and has a standard matt white finish, but can be painted by customers to their own preference, as in the above example at Slough's Pinewood Hotel.

Perfect for living rooms and entrance halls -or above a dining table - the Galaxy is also most suitable for bedrooms and can be used as both a night light and educational tool for children.

Galaxy in situ in piano bar

A Galaxy makes a striking feature above a baby grand piano in this elegant piano bar.

The Galaxy star ceiling

Although the basic finish of the Galaxy is white - to simulate gypsum plaster - the exposure of the photograph below left has been manipulated to bring out the sculpted details to best effect. Hence the blueish grey colour of the disk. There is, of course, no reason why customers should not paint the disk to whatever scheme they choose.

Embossed lines link the stars in each constellation to create the outlines which gave rise to their identification with the figures of mythology.

Galaxy shown with optional rim lighting.

Here, the Galaxy is shown with an optional upgrade package which involves the addition of six low-voltage 20 watt halogen rim lights. This option is particularly attractive where the Galaxy is displacing an existing pendant light fitting. The downlights are powered from a transformer which is suitable for use with a dimmer switch. In the example above, the rim lights are controlled by a dimmable wall switch next to the door, while the fibre optic stars are on a remote control switch, making possible a wide range of lighting combinations.
